Last weekend we both spent a lot of time with our families. I visited my sister and brother-in-law in Columbus, Ohio. While there, I became acquainted with their puppy, Meeko, fell in love with the Short North Art District and shopped at one-of-a-kind boutiques {buying kitschy items I'll invent uses for}. All the while, Emily was home in St. Louis preparing for her family's annual brunch crawl.

Me, my Aunt and Uncle and cousins all live within a block of each other, so each house hosts a different part of brunch.  I got to do sangrias. All-in-all, it was a fantastic way to kick-off another great week. Happy weekend!

This August is a "blue moon" month, meaning there is two full moons in one month and thirteen in the calendar year. To commemorate this Friday's  moon {there won't be another blue moon for a few years} we decided to share some of our favorite shades of blue we are coveting at the moment.

in good company

This past Monday was definitely a manic one. It has been busier than normal this time of year and stress is high. We were delighted to be asked to meet for dinner and (much needed) drinks with one of our closest friends from high school who has spent much of the last few years with her adorable growing family in Italy, Idaho and now North Dakota. Our few hours we spent sharing stories and catching up erased the stress of the day and we seemed to forget that any time had passed at all. As time has gone on, lots of friends have 'drifted' to other places. It's funny how you can be apart from someone for so long, and pick up like they never left at all. There really is no greater feeling. In high school, we'd always talk about the current moment, and the "what will I be doing in five years" moment. Although, we may have never imagined this is where our lives would take us, we can't help but think that somehow, someway, we were meant to be exactly where we are, even if it's just for now.

DIY: Sangrias

I love hosting any sort of gathering.  Not only is it an excuse to buy new stuff, but it's also fun to create  recipes.  This past Sunday I hosted the drink portion of a Family Brunch Crawl.  I spiced up the typical brunch beverage list by adding sangrias along with the traditional mimosa. It's a simple drink to make and a great way to enjoy the last bits of Summer's fresh fruits. For my recipe, I used a five-liter pitcher for the large group I was hosting.

To start:  I chose to do white and red versions. My white was a mixed-berry sangria.  I bought fresh raspberries, blackberries and strawberries.  First, I put three liters of white wine into the pitcher, and one liter of sparking berry flavored water.  Remember, to leave some room for the fruit, which I put in last.  I added the fruit until the pitcher was at capacity. Give it a stir for about a minute. Before serving,  let it sit for about an hour to allow the fruit flavors to infuse throughout.

The red was a more of a classic sangria.  I used oranges and apples as the fruit ingredients.  Again, I added three liters of red wine (I used a Cabernet) and one liter of Diet 7up. Leaving room at the top, I then added my fruit, stirred it for about a minute, and then let it sit for about an hour before serving.

If you have extra fruit, like I did, cut them up into bite sizes for people to put into their drinks.

Cheers!

Painting the town in the Color Run for Autism Speaks

Field trips to fast Eddies on magic school buses

Treating yourself to all things yellow

Enjoying the last part of the season in the best seat in the house

Meeting hometown heros
Summer strolls in forest park

This time of year is always bittersweet, we can't wait for fall fashions and activities but we are also dreading our goodbye's to swimming pools, sno-cones and long summer nights {daylight savings is my favorite time of year}. We have enjoyed packing in last minute summer activities this August before we we welcome bonfires, lots and lots of pumpkin, cocoa, and new boots.

throwback: bardot hair

As many of you know, hairstyles have a habit of going out of style just as quickly as they come in.  There are those however that are so classic, they never get old. We love Brigitte Bardot's retro and iconic hairstyles from the 1960's. One of our favorites is the wide headband with perfectly tousled locks. We used this black Turban-inspired headband purchased from Etsy, and this wide handmade knit headband.
